Filthy Modern Art

Paul Insect

Paul and his design collective Insect stand out by using antiquarian references in a medium seemingly obsessed with post-war culture.

His combination of gothic Victoriana and futuristic themes, a style known to fantasy fans as 'steampunk', led to Paul consulting on the smash-hit TV re-invention of Doctor Who in 2005.

A refined interpretation of visceral subject matter, Paul's work appeals to all of us who embrace anatomy, hunting and psychedelia but has won over many non-purists, including brands such as Adidas and Audi who've commissioned Paul for advertising campaigns.

Paul's own description of his work is "Twisted chemistry. I suppose the main influence is the insect world and that it'll be around longer than humanity, plus the way they look like little robots, especially beetles with their iridescent backs. But arachnids are the enemy. Anything with eight legs or two legs is a waste of space."
